Seven Ways to Get Realistic AI Images Instead of Plastic Ones
Camera language, lighting and the small imperfections that make an AI image read as a photograph.
The fastest way to make an AI image look fake is to ask for something "beautiful, stunning, 8k, ultra detailed". Those words push models toward the glossy, over-sharpened look everyone now recognizes. Realism comes from describing how a photo is actually taken.
1. Name a camera and lens
"Shot on a full-frame camera, 85mm, f/1.8" tells the model about depth of field, compression and perspective in a way adjectives never will.
2. Describe the light source
Window light from the left, overcast afternoon, a single bare bulb. Real photos have a light source you can point to.
3. Ask for imperfections
Skin pores, flyaway hairs, a crease in a shirt, crumbs on a table. Perfection is what gives AI away.
4. Avoid perfect symmetry
Ask for a candid moment, a slight head turn, an off-center composition.
5. Choose a color treatment
"Soft film look" or "muted natural grade" stops the oversaturated default.
6. Use a negative list
Tell the model what to avoid: plastic skin, extra fingers, warped text, glowing edges.
7. Keep the scene believable
Real places have clutter, signage and people doing ordinary things. Add a few.
